GEA Awards 2023
Our Golf della Montecchia is among the finalists of "The Golf Environment Awards" as an International Environmental Golf Course.
It is an award that has been running since 1995 with the support of The R&A, Aquatrols, BIGGA, Jacobsen, Syngenta and Tillers Turf. This award allows the golf industry to distinguish those facilities that are most aware of sustainable development.
Already in 2022 our Golf della Montecchia was a finalist in the "Operation Pollinator" category thanks to the "Mille Buche" project, focused on the protection of pollinating insects.
Every year Play Golf 54 by Montecchia Group launches new actions to improve our relationship with the environment and help create sustainable golf for the future.
For example, the group has decided to invest in the purchase of new Husqvarna lawnmower robots for the fairways of the Golf Club Frassanelle and Golf della Montecchia. This will help reduce CO2 emissions as they are 100% electric; improve the quality of the living elements of the earth by not creating compaction; and to have a course in better condition for the golfer, since the maintenance team can dedicate themselves in depth to other aspects of the course.
All this is combined with the implementation of bermuda grass greens and fairways to save on water consumption, the use of zoysia around the bunkers to reduce cutting hours, the creation of wild areas in the non playable parts of the course to develop the native flora and fauna, among other actions that you can consult in the environment section of our Golf della Montecchia website developed by our agronomist consultant Alessandro De Luca.
The combination of all these actions has helped us achieve numerous awards over the years in terms of sustainability. Among the latest awards obtained, we have been finalists for the World Golf Awards as World's Best Eco-Friendly Golf Facility 2023 and we hope to obtain the GEA award at the ceremony to be held on January 24.
